How the coach counts it

What is “late to fights” in Dota 2?

You joined the fight, but later than needed: by the time you arrived your allies had already lost heroes or retreated. Ten seconds late in Dota 2 is half a fight.

How does the coach find this mistake?

The coach takes the first damage of the fight and your first damage if you were not nearby. A delay over 10 seconds with a notable net-worth swing is flagged as late.

Why does “late to fights” cost games?

Fights are decided in the first seconds: disables, ultimates, the first kills. Whoever arrives later often just dies after their allies.

How it differs from similar mistakes

  • Missed fights

Missed fight: you were alive and close but dealt no damage at all. Late to the fight: you did join, but your first damage came more than 10 seconds after it started.
