How the coach counts it

What is “key spell not used in the fight” in Dota 2?

You were in the fight for several seconds and not disabled, yet never used your main ability or long-cooldown item. The fight went by without your key contribution.

How does the coach find this mistake?

The coach counts anything with a cooldown of 60+ seconds as key: ultimates, BKB, Refresher. If it was ready, you were in the fight over 3 seconds and disabled less than 60% of the time, and it was not used, that is an execution mistake.

Why does “key spell not used in the fight” cost games?

An ultimate with a minute-long cooldown often is your contribution to the fight. Saving it for later in a lost fight brings nothing.
