How the coach counts it

What is “enemy took the runes” in Dota 2?

In mid, runes decide who rotates first and who wins trades. Your opponent reached runes more often and got a Bottle refill, haste or damage while you were last-hitting.

How does the coach find this mistake?

For the mid player the coach counts power and water runes you and the enemy mid took during laning. A gap of 2 or more in the opponent's favor triggers this moment. A mid without a direct opponent is not rated.

Why does “enemy took the runes” cost games?

Every rune your opponent takes gives them a rotation or a won trade. Two or three extra runes over the lane often explain a lost mid without obvious last-hitting mistakes.
