How the coach counts it

What is “no gold for buyback” in Dota 2?

You died late with a long respawn, buyback was off cooldown, but you did not have the gold for it. Your team defended or fought without you meanwhile.

How does the coach find this mistake?

The coach computes the buyback price from your net worth (200 + net worth / 13) and compares it with your gold at the second of death when the respawn is longer than 30 seconds.

Why does “no gold for buyback” cost games?

Late in the game one death without buyback can cost a barracks or the game: the enemy breaks your base while you wait over a minute.

How it differs from similar mistakes

  • No buyback while the base fell

In both cases your base lost a building while you waited on a long respawn. Didn't buy back: you had the gold and the cooldown and didn't use them. Not enough for buyback: the cooldown was ready but the gold wasn't, so look at your purchases and your reserve in the late game.
