How the coach counts it
What is “died with gold in pocket” in Dota 2?
At the moment of death you had a lot of free gold: 900+ in lane, 2000+ in the midgame, 2500+ above buyback in the late game. That item could have won the fight, and part of the gold is lost on death.
How does the coach find this mistake?
The coach looks at gold on hand at the second of death and does not flag it if you bought something within 10 seconds before: you were already spending.
Why does “died with gold in pocket” cost games?
Gold in your pocket does not fight. An item bought a minute earlier gives damage, survivability or a save in exactly the fight where you died.
How it differs from similar mistakes
- Holding gold
Holding gold: unspent gold sat in your pocket for over a minute in a row, even if you never died. Died with gold: the coach looks at a single second, the moment of death, and uses its own thresholds.
