No buyback while the base fell. When to buy back in Dota 2: buyback to defend your base

No buyback means you died with a respawn over 30 seconds, your team lost a base building (T3, barracks or throne) while you were dead, and you had the gold and cooldown to buy back.

How to fix “no buyback while the base fell”?

  1. 1When the enemy pushes your base, buy back right away, not in the last seconds.
  2. 2After buying back, stand at the building with your team instead of running into a fight alone.
  3. 3If they are already hitting barracks, the buyback is almost always better than saving for an item.
  4. 4Tell your team you are buying back so they do not retreat before you arrive.

How the coach counts it

What is “no buyback while the base fell” in Dota 2?

The enemy walked into your base while you waited to respawn with buyback gold in your pocket. Your team defended without you and lost a building you could have helped hold.

How does the coach find this mistake?

The coach looks at deaths with a respawn over 30 seconds. If a T3, barracks or the throne fell while you were dead, buyback was off cooldown, and your gold covered its price (200 + net worth / 13), it is a mistake. Two barracks or the throne make it severe.

Why does “no buyback while the base fell” cost games?

Barracks do not rebuild. After them mega creeps come down the lane and every next defense gets harder. A buyback costs less than one lost barracks.

How it differs from similar mistakes

  • No gold for buyback

In both cases your base lost a building while you waited on a long respawn. Didn't buy back: you had the gold and the cooldown and didn't use them. Not enough for buyback: the cooldown was ready but the gold wasn't, so look at your purchases and your reserve in the late game.

  • Wasted buyback

Didn't buy back: you had buyback, the base was falling, and you waited for respawn. Wasted buyback: you bought back but died again within a minute without taking part in a single kill.
